Maria Eugenia is a biologist and an ecologist investigating the effects of anthropogenic activities on biodiversity. She has focused her research on light and plastic pollution and on the effects of multiple disturbances on key species, especially crop wild relatives. Her research on Water-Energy-Food-Environment (WEFE) nexus has contributed to the understanding of linkages between nexus elements and the impacts of agricultural expansion. She is interested in the development of tools to quantify natural capital to measure and value nature, which in turn will help in decision-making.
